1999 Honda Accord O2 sensor/check engine light

1999 Honda Accord

I have had intermittent engine light displays (on for approximately 30 days /off 30 days). Is it the light or the sensors. There is no perceptible change in the operation of the engine. Help. Don't want to spend unnecessary money if it is not needed.
