I started the car and the engine sounded like it was struggling, I put it into drive and accelerated, but the car would not accelerate, then the car just died when I braked

Hi bora,

does the vehicle start up after it stalls? Or is it currently just cranking without starting?

I would do some basic checks first. Check to see if you are getting strong spark at the spark plugs, strong spark is bright and should be white/blue. If you have a fuel pressure gauge, you may also want to check fuel pressure to ensure your vehicle is getting the proper fuel pressure needed to start the vehicle.

If you engine light is on, you should scan the ECM and retrieve any codes that are stored as well.

Hey

Thanks for the tips.

Well the car starts up fine, and then randomly it will stall again, I suspect its the coil.

No check engine light comes on, so I can read from the computer.

Im going to pull the plugs and see if they have been ever changed, ( its my friends car)

Thanks

Well if you suspect it's the coil, here is how you diagnose it properly.

Thanks for the help,

I will try this tomorrow and see how it goes as I don't have the car today.

I was also thinking could it be the wires?

I guess the car needs a tune up.

Update.

Spoke to my friend and now the car is shaking/chugging all the time. Maybe it could also be a fuel delivery problem?

My first guess would be an ignition problem, which are very popular on these cars.

Try unplugging each injector clip one at a time. After you unplug it the engine should bog down or even stall out. If you unplug an injector clip and the engine does not react then you have isolated the mis-fire and you know you have an issue with that particular cylinder. In that case it may be an injector, spark plug, or plug wire. Under extreme cases if may be a compression issue that could be from a bent valve, cracked ringland on the piston, etc.
