I recently had a different engine put in my car because of either a blown gasket or a cracked block and now my car vibrates and the engine noise gets louder when the car is heated up and I'm sitting with the brake on at a stopsign. AND, it gets a little worse when the lights are on. Can you tell me what the cause is? I took the car back to the mechanic, who isn't able to pinpoint the cause. Many thanks.

Hear are my thoughts on this:

I would check the motor mounts as one could have been damaged in the motor change over.

Next I would check under the vehicle to see if the exhaust system is ok. For instance, with the change over, the system could have been shifted slightly causing the pipe to vibrate on the vehicle. This could also be caused by a bad motor mount not properly supporting the engine.

Next I might consider that the heat shields on the exhaust could be vibrating and causing the noise. When the lights are turned on the engine must pick up to compensate for the alternator kicking in to handle the draw. The raise in the engine work might cause the extra noise.
