Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Honda Accord 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 138000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi I was wondering if you could give me some ideas on my engine problem? The motor idles and the performance is good. The only thing is when I drive it it makes a noticable rattleing noise. I checked for things that could have gotten loose ex. manifold sheilds, metal lines... Can you give me some possiblities what could be wrong? Thank you

Hi there,

If the rattle is only when you accelerate,it may be engine ping.. If so get the ignition timing checked.

Hi mochi,

It is impossible to list all the possibilities but rattling noise is usually due to something loose, fittings not properly tightened.

You have to at least let us know the area that the noise is coming from and if it is engine related.

If catalytic converter is defective, it can also give a rattling noise.
