I recently began having problems starting my car; I would turn the ignition key but nothing would happen except the air/radio would turn on. There were no sounds or other indicators of a problem before or at that time 9other than it not starting). I checked the battery and all was okay. I ended up having to tow my car to a honda dealership. They couldn't find anything wrong and the car immediately started for them. I picked up the car and did not have any more problems until about 4 days later when again it would not start. I played around with the key in ignition and put the car in neutral-the car started. From then on, I had to put the car in neutral for it to start. I took my car to another Honda dealership after seeing there was a recall on the ignition switch 'IGNITION SWITCH MAY WEAR EXCESSIVELY AND PREVENT PROPER INTERLOCK OPERATION". The dealership said the recall only called for the replacement of the interlock part (all of a $1.45) but that my problem was a result of the "electrical portion of the ignition to be failing" so they had to "replace the ignition switch electrical components" to a cost of $300. Does this sound right? If there is a problem with the ignition switch wearing excessively and not properly locking, it seems to me that this would most likely be the cause of me having to put my car in neutral in order for it to start. I feel jipped but would like an expert opinion to determine whether I should contact Honda's corporate office. Thank you!
