Hi sonnyvo,

The cooling fans operate only when the temp is more than the preset of the fan switch sensor. If they don't work when the gauge is showing overheating, you need to check the fan switch located on the thermostat housing.

The fans should work with the AC turned on.

There is a cooling fan switch located at upper hose outlet and when ignition switch is turned off, if the temp is more than the preset of the switch, the fans would be turned on to col the engine down. It should not work more than a few minutes.

You should check the coolant level in the radiator, insufficient coolant would cause what you described.
