I had the timing belt replaced on my 1997 Honda Accord SW. I have loved this car and would be happy with it for a long time, BUT, after the timing belt was changed, it whines (loudly) whenever the engine is under load. My mechanic is a good, experienced, nice, independent guy with a great reputation.

He said the whine would go away after a week or 100 miles. It didn't. He loosened the belt a little. No change. He checked the alternator. Nothing. He finally said its unusual that he can't figure it out, but he gave up. So, 5 months later, my car whines, LOUDLY.

Any ideas?

If he was a good mechanic he could easily find the problem.

My bet would be either the timing belt is still too tight, or the tensioner pulley needs to be replaced.
