Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
1997 Honda Accord 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 202k miles

During recent driving in heavy snow (getting stuck a few times, in and out of gear), my clutch went out. I don't know if it's the master cylinder, slave cylinder, or the clutch plate itself. Car starts fine with the clutch depressed, but when the clutch is released (car in neutral), there's a faint grinding sound. Put the car in gear, add gas, and nothing happens. No movement, no go. Speedometer shows I'm moving, but wheels aren't turning. Can go through all the gears, and release the clutch while standing still, and the car does not stall. I'm waiting for some snow to melt so I can look beneath the car (towed it to my house, but there's a lot of snow!). Hopefully it's the master cylinder, because that's about the only thing I can do myself. If there's enough info for a diagnosis as well as an estimated repair cost, I'd appreciate it.

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation.

If the speedo is working when in gear and no drive, either you have a broken drive shaft or the diff has failed, I would be checking the drive shafts first, the slight grinding noise is a worry.
