Backed car out of driveway tried to put car in drive and the car would not move. The gearshift seems to just move up and down without grabbing a gear. At firwst we thought maybe because we had no brake fluid in car that breaks locked up. only the front wheels are locked up. We had to have towed back into driveway because car will not even go into nuetral. At this point, we have filled the brake fluid and bled the brake lines and still front wheels are locked as if in park. And when we try to put car in another gear, nothing seems to happen. It is as if the gears are not engaging. Our first thought is transmission but we have also been told that linkage could be problem. Please help. Tight now the car woukld have to be towed to be fixed or if we can do it ourselves then we can save a lot of money. Please any advice will be helpful.

Hi sotocar,

Disconnected or broken cable can be done DIY.

You have to verify if it is the cable that is causing the problem. Get under tha car and see if the cable is working when gear shift is pushed forward or backwards.
