My mechanic tells me that my rear main seal is leaving slightly - less than a quart is missing after 4 months - and would cost abut $800 to be fixed because the transmission would have to be pulled out. Is this a reasonable charge? I also have a slight oil leak from the distributor that he says would need to be replaced for abut $500. Is that reasonable?

The rear seal price is not that bad and involves a lot of work. But the distributor leak is terrible. I assume the vehicle is running good. The distributor is a simple repair of replacement. Generally it is nothing more than an o ring needing to be replaced.
