I was having problems with power steering and had the rack and pinion replaced and the car aligned. It ran well for two days. Then, it started rattling and when we looked under the hood, a belt had slipped and shredded. My husband took it off (said the car would still go) and the power steering does not work again. Also, at the same time, the odometer stopped working, but the speedometer still does. Could the garage be responsible for the slipped belt? And, could the odometer stopping be connected to the power steering problem (we also had the oxygen sensor replaced at the same time) or the oxygne sensor problem?

Hi Dantash2,

The power steering belt is not directly related to the rack and pinion replacement and you need to check if the crank pulley is ok.

The odometer not cumulating with speedometer needle working points to a faulty meter cluster or power supply fault.

O2 sensor is not the cause.
