Timing mark on Outside dia of crank shaft pulley a notch usally lined in white when viewed from above front on engine lines up with a indicator protruding from from front of engine. Be sure # 1 clylinder is coming up on compression stroke when the marks line up, check distributor rotor to verify it is pointing to # 1 spark plug wire. The crank shaft lines with distributor firing # 1 spark plug every other rotation. The exhaust stroke the crank shaft marks will be at tdc but the distributor rotor will be 180' from #1 spark plug wire. Also cam timing could effect clylinder not firing correctly valve camshafts pulleys have timing marks also must remove timing belt covers to check timing of valve camshafts. I would not advive going this deep without an appropriate repair manual.
