My heater hose blew, we replaced it. Now its sluggish in first and second, then picks up and is fine in third. When I stop the car, the top radiator hose is VERY hot, and the bottom one is cool. Did I wreck my engine? Will changing the thermostat solve the problem? It's after midnight, I gotta be to work in 8 hrs, and that's my only transportation.

If you didn't overheat the engine, replacing the thermostat will do the trick.

Just make sure you properly bleed the cooling system.
