Electrical problem
1993 Honda Accord 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 200K miles
I stopped using my Honda Accord about 9 months ago due to getting a new vehicle. Now I am trying to get it running but There is no response at all when I try to turn the key to any position. I have no dashboard lights, no headlights or turn signals, no sounds or anything. Before i stopped using the car, it was having some problems in overheating if it was in traffic too long... but I can't see anything like that causing how it is now. I know that it should start with no problem. I started to think it may be the Electronic Ignition System which includes the ignition switch, battery, coil, distributer, spark plug wires and plugs. I have used a Haynes Repair Manual to help me troubleshoot and from the tests that I have run, the battery is good and charged, spark plugs and wires are good. I have opened the distributer cap to check the coil but have hesitated to go any further, because I feel I could make things worse. I recently wondered if I should work backwards here and start with the ignition switch. Would the Ignition Swich cause problems such as the ones I am having? And could any of the other subjects cause no response from the car at all?
A few other items I wanted to ask about. From what I have read, I feel like any of these could also be the problem: Programmed Ignition System (PGM-IG, Electronic Control Unit(ECU), TDC/CRANK/CYL sensor.
Thanks
