Why must I pump my brakes when at a stop?

it sounds like the check valve on the booster is not closing or it could be a diapram leaking
to test start the car and open the hood have someone push the brake and release
if hissing is heard while pushing the brake in its a diaphram leak
if the hissing is heard when the brake is let go its the check valve
