When you say axle, do you mean the knuckle assy or just the CV joint?
To replace the CV joint, you need to
1. Remove the driveshaft.
2. Remove the CV joint by tapping it free from the shaft.
3. Remove old boot and clean the shaft.
4. Install the new CV boot with the clips but do not tighten now.
5. Apply provided grease into the new joint and install onto shaft. You need to ensure that the spring clip is seated properly before tapping the new CV joint into position.
6. Tighten the clips after seating the boot on both ends.
7. Reinstall driveshaft.
