How do u know if it's a lifter or a rod knocking and if its a lifter can u tighten it?

Hi there,

A lifter is a tick type noise and it is more evident at the top of the motor, a rod bearing will knock and is a deeper sound, you can not tighten lash adjusters , you can adjust manual tappets.
