When you hit the gas it doesnt pick up very well. I was told it had to do with the transmission. The repair guy said it would cost me around 700-900. Is this to much?

That would depend on what needs to be done.

Transmission seldom causes poor performance except for improperly adjusted cable which is just a minor job.

I would suggest getting a second opinion.
