About a month and a half ago I started having this problem. After driving the car around for a while the idle would jump up and down while I stopped and eventually it would stall. It would not start again for a period of time, sometimes hours. I took it to a mechanic and they let my car sit for a day then looked at it and of course it ran fine then. They told me they thought it was the distributor from the sounds of it. I drove it for almost a week and then it did it again. I bought a distributor and put it on. Car ran fine (except for the idle would jump between 1000 and 1500 rpms when I would put it back in park after I reached my destination) for a little over a week. Then it did the same thing except that the idle would jump more when I was driving than when I was stopped at a light and would stall. I check the cap and rotor and they were kinda fried so I replace them and it again ran fine for a little over a week (same idle jumping after driving and putting it into park) and now is stalling on me again. So it seems like the problems start when the engine gets hot. I talked to different mechanic and he told me that he thinks it is the mudule in the distributor, but the new distributor came with a new module. It had the same problem with old distibutor and new one. Any ideas?

Are there any codes?

Try cleaning the iac motor.

Remove the IAC valve and block the ports to the intake. The engine should then run at a low steady idle.

Make sure the coolant is full.

Check the fast idle valve ( left side of the intake), you need to remove the cover (2 screws) There should be no air passing through when hot. You can adjust the plunger
with a wide flat screw driver to close it. If you're still
not sure you can remove it from the plenum and cover the two holes and see if the idle returns to normal.
