1990 Honda Accord will start in park sometimes, other times

1990 Honda Accord 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

my car will start in park sometimes. Sometimes it will not. Whenever it does not start in park I put it in neutral and it will start.

There is a sensor at the shift lever that tells the car it is in neutral or park at the P position and allows it to start. That switch/sensor sounds like it is failing.
