The power steering on the car began by getting hard to turn to the left, then would pull by it self to the left at low speed, then all power in any derection quit. Is this a steering box valve problem or a pump problem. Will I damage anything by driving the car in this condition.

Hi there,

I feel that this is a steering rack issue, If the fluid level is ok and the pump is not running dry, you will not do any further damage.

Hi gulfbound,

mhpautos is correct, it is a rack problem.

Most probably water has got into the rack and it is rusting causing jamming up the turn push pin which will not indicate a proper turn.

It is better to have the problem solved as it might get worse.
