In removing the water pump from this 88 Honda Accord Lxi with fuel injection everything was going fine until the last of the six water pump bolts. It is the one directly under the pump. There seems to be a plastic cover hiding the bolt; this plastic seems to be an extension of the timing belt cover. Does the timing belt cover have to come off on this one to get at that last bolt?

Hi there,

There is no mention in Mitchell 1 about having to remove the timing cover, but if you can't access the last bolt, then you will have to remove the bracket or cover, unfortunately i can't find a pic of the pump on the engine to see for my self.

Mark,

Thanks for the response. Yes on this model the timing belt cover needs to come off. Be forewarned, the crank pulley can be a nightmare to get off. I had to take this one to a local shop to use their high power air; mine just couldn’t get it. To confirm a few posts on this site I have included a photo of the old pump: the fins will corrode away after 21 years and cause overheating.

Enjoy Thanksgiving and be thankful
