1994 Holden Commodore battery wont keep its charge

i have a vr commodore,for some reason my battery wont keep its charge.i installed a new altanator and its still not working.if i go out i have to dissconect the battery when i get out of car otherwise there wont be enough charge to start it up.the battery light is constintly on.when im driving along and the battery looses abit of power the engine light comes on and then it feels as though it has lost first gear.

Hi there,

Check the alternator out put with a multi meter, check the main connecting wire at the alternator, these do get very corroded, if so you may need to splice back and fit a new section of cable, start here.
