The reverse lights on my 2003 holden barina (vauxhall corsa) are not working. The bulbs are good but there is no power at the bulb socket. I did check this with the engine running and it was in reverse gear. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (I was quoted almost $800 for a replacement inhibitor switch?)

Thanks for your info Mark. Now I just need to find a repair manual to show where this switch is and how to get to it without breaking all of this crappy plastic.

After market manuals for these cars are near impossible to get hold of some times, the "genuine" manual will require a 2nd mortgage to purchase it that is if Holden have one them selfs, been there done that what a joke. I have a 97 Haynes Barina manual but I feel that it will not be of use as the transmission is different in the early models, so I am lead to believe. Good luck.

Thanks again Mark.
I tried my local Holden dealer (the one that told my to buy the inhibitor) and they said to get a manual from Haynes or Gregory's. Holden don't supply them.
I found a reverse light switch at Burson for $37 so I'll try that and let you know how I get on.
Regards, CM.

Hi again Mark, sorry for taking so long to get back to you. The problem is now fixed - After purchasing the reverse light switch, I found out that they only fit the Manual not Auto gearbox so I was told by my local dealer that I needed the $800 inhibitor. I refused to pay that amount for such a small part so I found and downloaded a workshop manual off the web (4 pounds UK). In the wiring diagrams, I saw that the reverse lights are wired to the same fuse as the cigarette lighter-checked fuse-blown replaced fuse-reverse lights work-problem solved. Why, in the "owners manual" does it not tell you this!
Thanks again for your advice and I hope that my problem is able to assist other people in the future.
Regards, Chris M.

Hi there,

Well done, even in the trade we have very little back up with the imported "Holden "range, you have had a great result, you would think that the dealer of all people would of been able to tell you that. But maybe its a case of propping up the spare parts sale.

Cheers,

Mark.
