I hit a curb and damaged and replaced the tie rods. The steering is way out of alignment, and I hear a grinding sound whenever I turn. Now the mechanic is telling me I need to replace the upper control arm and lower ball joint. He didn't say anything about the lower control arm. I'm wondering if this is correct or if I'm just going to have to get him to come back and replace the lower control arm?

If the car is way out of alignment in a turn the tire could be contacting the inner fender well etc. which will make a grinding noise. To be sure, can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so I can hear the noise? That way I can tell for sure what's going on. You can upload it here with your response.
