High idle then shut off?

I noticed that my security light and battery light came on at the same time. I took the car home. I went to leave a few hours later. When I started the car up the idle went straight up to 4,000 RPMs for about 30 seconds and then it started to sputter and then it died. Now it won't start. The battery is now dead from trying to get it to start. Please help me as my job is on the line!

First you need to charge the battery back up, here is a guide to help:

After that try to start the engine by holding your foot on the gas pedal slightly, if the engine starts it sounds like the IAC valve needs to be replaced. I would service the throttle bore at the same time.
