Brakes and steering not working

My mom and sister were in the car this afternoon and my sister was driving off, when her brakes and steering wheel would not move.

I need more information on the problem. What do you mean by not move? Was it locked solid? And the brakes what exactly was happening there?

The steering wheel would not move, it was totally stuck and the brakes would not work at all. It was fine after she switched the car off and then back on again.

That is all a bit strange, probably would start with checking for any codes, remember that not all codes will set a check light, it looks like that you have electric steering on this model so loss of power to the motor will result in very heavy steering, as for the brakes locking up I cant see a coloration between the steering and the brakes, so get the scans done and report what is found there first.
