It could be a few different things. First, see if it will start if you place it in neutral.
If that doesn't change things, make sure the battery is fully charged and the terminals are clean and tight. Here are two links to help with that:

Okay, if the terminals are clean, tight, and the battery is good, then we need to check for power at the starter.
At the starter, you will find two primary wires. One will be a heavy gauge wire straight from the battery and will have 12v at all times. The other is purple and smaller. It should have 12v when the key is in the start position. Check for that. You will need a helper to perform that process.
