Engine shuts off when trying to accelerate

Idles fine until I try and give it gas, but when I try to push gas pedal it shuts off. I was thinking it was the engine coolant sensor but do not know where it is located. Someone told me it could be the Arv valve. Not sure where that is either. Please help
