Heavy fuel consumption with little drop in oil level (engine oil) without visible smoke. What is the cause?

Some engine oil consumption is normal in higher mileage cars. Poor fuel economy can be caused by a poor tune up or a faulty sensor. Have your engine computer scanned for trouble codes. If no codes are present, have your engine tuned up.
