When I turn on the heater first thing after the car has been sitting, the heater motor sounds like a jet engine for a while. It does quiet down after the car gets warmer.

In the olden days I would have thought it was a belt that needed replacement but don't know with this car that I have had since it was new.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

If the blower motor is making that type of noise, the motor most likely needs replaced. Here are the directions in general on how one is replaced:

Here are the directions specific to your vehicle for replacement. Picture 1 correlates with these directions.

REMOVE/INSTALL BLOWER MOTOR
Removing and Installing Blower Motor

Picture 1

1 Remove electronic blower regulator (N29)
2 Unscrew screws (6)
3 Remove blower motor (A32m1)
4 Install in opposite order.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions. Based on your description, it seems the bearing in the blower motor is dry or going bad.

Take care,
Joe

When you take out the motor check the fan to make sure there are no leaves or other things that would make noise when the fan is turned on.
