Vehicle listed above is a GMC G2500 Vandura Explorer conversion van with rear A/C and heat.

I’m the 2nd owner, purchased in 2001. We don’t drive it much anymore, kids are gone, it’s a nice van, so we keep it for an emergency. I have never replaced the 4 port water flow control valve, (AcDelco 155536) or any of the heater hoses, except the ones that were easy to get to, so I thought it preventatively prudent to replace it all since i’m also doing some A/C work and i’ve removed the accumulator which provides ease of access to the above WFC. Tracing the water hoses from above and under the van, I found the lower port of the WFC routes to the rear of the intake manifold, but also “t” ‘s off to another, (steel) vacuum controlled valve and pipe, (recreational package?) Which then joins a rubber hose and routes to the rear. I believe this valve to be a rear HVAC heater control valve, (four seasons 74801) however, the last year I can find this control valve installed on a D2500 is 1990. I have the gm service manuals for this van, i’ve called “explorer conversions” and other then finding what looks to be the same valve on “partsgeek” I find nothing. “Acme A/C” who installed the rear unit for “Explorer” is defunct, I assume they installed this valve, but I can’t ask them. I read a post on this site by “Jimmiez” who had 1995 Chevrolet van and a similar question and responded to by merlin2021, but it sounded like he had the four seasons 74801 valve, but not the AcDelco 155536-wfc, I have both. I like to understand how and why things work. Since the rear heat and A/C are controlled by the OEM HVAC controls, (except for a rear fan rotary switch) on the dash, i’m assuming that this valve isolates the coolant lines going to the rear when heat is not selected on the HVAC control panel.
So, my questions: 1. Is that assumption correct? 2. Is the “four seasons-74801” rear HVAC heater control valve the correct valve even though my van is a 1995? 3. What is a “recreational package”?
Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi,

I have to be honest, since it has gone through a conversion, anything is possible. As far as your assumption, that makes 100% sense.

The conversion company may have changed components to make things work with the changes. Is it possible for you to upload a pic of the valve in question?

As far as the recreational package, that likely changes the suspension, wiring, and so on for body companies to modify.

Let me know.

That has to be the Four Seasons HVAC Rear Heater Control Valve #74801. The pipe and the orientation look to be correct. What do you think? Regards!

Hi,

Excellent pics. Yes, I agree with you. That is what it appears to be. Keep in mind, the body company likely used what was needed to make it work.

Let me know if I can help.
