Hi:

It sounds like there is an issue with what is called a mode door actuator. The mode actuator is responsible for air flow direction. Since you have no vent flow and the other directions are weak, something seems to either be stuck or the actuator isn't working.

Please understand that my manuals don't go back this far with specific info. However, I will do my best to help. If I remember correctly, this vehicle has two mode actuators, and upper and a lower. These components are located under the dash on the HVAC/heater box. I am going to provide directions I have for replacing a blend door actuator, which is similar, but serves a different purpose. It's all I have at hand.

Take a look through the link. It shows what the actuator should look like and approximately where they are located on your vehicle. You will need to check by feel which actuators are moving by changing air flow directions and air temperature. Note which ones respond to each change and when you go to vent, see if nothing reacts or which of them isn't reacting. I know that sounds confusing, but you should be able to both hear and feel which one is reacting.

Try it and let me know what you find.

You know, here is a link the explains what happens when you only have defrost and nothing else. It deals specifically with the mode door actuators, so you may find it more helpful.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions. I will try my best from memory to help.

Take care,

Joe
