Heated PCV issues?

As I said in previous thread, my golf is Canadian market only (golf city).
I have owned it for 1 year now.

On the heated PCV valve there is a little vacuum hose that is supposed to close the diaphragm to prevent crankcase ventilation to enter throttle body at idle and open it as RPM rise!
But on my car, with or without that vacuum, there is crankcase ventilation sucked in the throttle body.

On top of it, for the first time there is some foamy stuff on my oil filler cap and in the PCV valve.

What could be the cause?

P.S. There is power to the heated wire yellow/black 14.7v, brown/red 0.01v.
On the valve there is 14.2 Ohms.

Thanks,
Christian

Hi,

As far as the second pic, that can happen when it is cold due to condensation in the crankcase. The PCV should help eliminate that from happening, but sometimes it doesn't take care of all of it.

How do you know the PCV is open when the engine is running? When the engine is running, there is always a vacuum at the throttle body.

Also, there is likely a diaphragm or small electric motor on the actuator. If you power it directly, do you feel or hear it operate? If you apply vacuum to it, does it hold vacuum?

Let me know.

Joe

Please note: This specific model isn't available in the US, so I don't have specifics to review.

Hi Joe,

If you listen to the video, you will notice the engine running rough. It is because I am blowing air (with my mouth) using a piece of tube in the PCV with engine running and the vacuum line on.
Btw, it doesn't hold vacuum.
And since there is a vacuum line on the PCV, I presumed it is a diaphragm not an actuator motor.
The electrical connector is for the heater.
P.S. Sadly, I can't get any specifics to review myself. VW is shy in sharing technical info if you're not a mechanic.

Hi,

I went to my manual to see if anything would help. I have to start by confirming this is a diesel. Next, I attached a pic below of the connector to the heated PCV. Number 1 in the pic is the power supply and number 2 is ground. Check to make sure you have both.

When you check this, move the wiring around to see if things change. Also, note that the information isn't specific to the Canadian model. I'm making the assumption it should be the same.

Let me know.

Joe
