Heat and air come on by its self?

Heat and A/C not working properly

Hi,
When you say the heat and A/C come on by themselves, do you mean the blower motor turns on, or do you just notice heat or A/C coming through the vents with no fan? Also, when the A/C comes on by itself, does the compressor engage?
If possible, please let me know as much as you can. I need to have more specific information to try to diagnose this. Also, let me know if this vehicle has manual or automatic climate control.
