headlights very dim?

headlights are so dim that I am unable to drive at night. i have replaced the alternator, checked fuses. i lost the key with the chip and was told that it may cause the dim headlights.

Most of the time when the headlights are dim you have a bad ground, I would check the ground connection which is by the left side of the dash. here is the headlight wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.
