The easiest way is to trade the car in. LOL.
GM didn't do anyone a favor on the Malibu. You need to remove the front bumper cover assembly to get to the headlight mounting bolts so you can remove the housings to change the bulbs. You can do one side or make life easier and remove both sides and replace all of the headlight bulbs at once. That way if the new bulb is brighter or a different color output like bright white or one of the high performance types both sides match.

On the back of hte headlight it is either a bulb or a large ring that holds the bulb in. Both will twist and then remove the bulb. When installing the new one make absolutely sure not to touch the bulb area with your hand or fingers. If you do make sure to wipe it off with alcohol before you install it. Otherwise it will burn out very fast.

The headlight assembly bolts in. You need to remove the bolts to be able to turn the headlight sockets to remove them so that you can replace the bulbs.

I hope you finally found out how to change you headlight bulb and avoided a ticket! If not, let me know. I've got a 2005 LS (new body style. Not the newest 2008 body style) and had the same dilema before reading my owner's manual. If you need help, reply to message.

If the owner's manual helps on the regular Malibu in replacing the headlamp, it doesn't on the Malibu Classic. When the two bolts are removed that supposedly allow the headlamp assembly to be pulled out, the headlamp is still connected to that part by the headlamp adustment mechanism and that part is connected to the grill and bumper. Has anyone resolved this issue?

Easy as pie. There are two small, square, black clips that hold the assembly. One on each side at the top. Simply pull up on them until they pop loose and the assembly comes right out. Good luck :)

I own this vehicle (VIN #1G1ND52J816199867) and can't figure out how to replace the drivers/left side low beam headlamp bulb. I removed the battery to try to gain access to the bulb from the back side but there is sheet metal in the way. I don't see any screws or other fasteners that hold the bezel assembly in place.

You may need to pull the headlight assembly out then twist the bulb out undoo the electrical and repeat to install. Do not under any circumstances touch the bulb with your hand.

Thanks for the reply. It is a '97 Chevy Malibu. If I can get into the headlight I am confident I can take it from there (following your advice), but the problem is that I can't find a way to get into it! The area behind the headlight is covered with a metal pannel that doesn't have any bolts to remove it or anything. I tried taking off the plastic pannel on the top, but that didn't give me access to anything I needed to get to. How do I get to the bulb!
Thank you so much for your help! What do I do if I can't figure it out?
