Head and valve cover

Put in a new battery in my van listed above and turned the key to start and turned over like three times and the whole value cover blew apart like a back fire through the engine. I've never seen that happen. Any ideas?

Hi,

That is extremely interesting. Did the cams break and hit it? Can you upload a pic of what happened so I can see it? Also, prior to this happening, is there a possibility of extreme flooding of the engine that could have caused fuel to get into the crankcase?
