hazard flasher switch and turn signal switch

2001 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT
125,000 MILES • 2.8L • V6 • AUTOMATIC

They are both separate but both have stopped working for the most part. If one is replaced will it fix the other one or do I need to replace both individually?

Yup. But this is a flasher problem. Two different switches didn't fail at the same time. You have the newer relatively expensive electronic flasher that performs both functions.
