I ran it out of gas and kept trying to start it but I got gas and worked fine. The next day I tried to shift gears it was hard. It was like it would not engage. It has a brand new clutch. can anyone help?

Check the clutch pedal free travel. If it is too low, the gears would crash when you try to engage. Check the clutch fluid level. If the hydraulic system is leaking, there clutch travel would be insufficient for you to engage gears easily.
