Carbon build up can cause this because when the engine heats up the carbon will actually heat up as well. However, it is normally not going to cause this issue by itself. Meaning if you just decarbon the engine it will fix the issue. Normally the carbon is a symptom of a greater issue.
I would suggest performing this de-carbon procedure with one of the chemicals you spray in the intake and then clean the throttle bore if it is dirty.

If you perform this and then retest hopefully it resolves your issues. However, you cannot actually scrap the carbon off the pistons unless you take the engine apart so you will need to use a chemical that is made for this. Any parts store has a large selection of these products.
