Hard starting

My engine starts first try every day when cold, once hot it will not start unless i release fuel pressure from valve on fuel line at rear of motor. On very cold winter days it starts every time all day long. my fuel pump has a constant 65 lbs pressure and i have changed fuel pressure sensor in tank but problem still exists. My next plan was to remove intake and change fuel pressure regulator. If you have any idea what else could correct this i would be very grateful.

fuel pressure should be 60-66 psi which you are in the ball park, but is it the same when hot? it may not be fuel regulators are a known failure on these as well as the poppet valves that on earlier models prior to 2003 GM has recommended replacing the spider in manifold. but check fuel pump when hot see if it is in range.

If you replace the injector assembly, opt for the newer unit's that replace the poppet valves with real injectors. MUCH more reliable and I've seen better mileage as well.
