Truck hard to start in morning but starts fine rest of the day. Replaced fuel pump along with filter and fuel line from pump to filter which is located on carburetor. No fuel leaks anywhere. Acts like starved for fuel, runs rough when first started also but smooths out quickly and purrs like a kitten rest of day. Turn the key and starts right up. Has dual tanks also.

Good morning,

When it does not start, there is a good chance the fuel in the carburetor drained into the engine overnight resulting in no fuel on cold start. Look in carburetor before starting and see if any fuel squirts into the engine when you hit the throttle before cranking.

Also, does the choke plate close on cold start?

No fuel in carburetor and choke is working fine. That's why I can't figure it out. Mechanical pump on it.

Okay, the fuel is draining internally in the carburetor. It could be the power valve at the bottom of the front of the carburetor or the plugs at the bottom of the fuel bowl.
