1999 Ford F-150 Hard to start when engine has been running a

a while. I have to turn ac off, step on gas to start

Has the check engine light come on? Have you noticed black smoke from the exhaust when it starts for you?

No service light on, didn't see smoke but smells like smoke when it starts.

Have the temp switch checked and replaced if needed. Also, complete a fuel pressure test to see if there is fuel drop off. Basically, when you shut the key, it should hold pressure for awhile. If it drops quickly, you could have a few injectors leaking into the engine and flooding it.
