The handbrake wasn't holding on i800 minibus. I have replaced the shoes and drum/discs and replaced the front section of the handbrake cable as it snapped when I tried to tighten it. While the wheels were of the ground I adjusted the brake adjuster till the wheel locked and then turned it back slightly so the wheel rotates. When I pull the handbrake on the wheel it doesn't turn, but when I test the handbrake on a slight hill it doesn't hold.

Hi,

When you adjust the brakes, press the brake pedal several times to center the brakes. Then readjust until you feel a slight drag on the wheels. You may have to do it a couple of times, but that should help.

Try that and let me know if it helps.

I tried that and still not holding. I noticed that one of the handbrake cables coming from the drums is slightly longer than the other. Could this be the reason?

Hi,

Yes, that could cause this to happen. Is it possible for you to take a few pictures of where the cables join together or where the adjuster is? I don't have info for an i800. However, there should be an adjuster.

Most vehicles will have one cable from the park brake lever which will join with two from the rear of the vehicle, one from each wheel. Then, there is normally an adjuster nut used to equalize the pressure to the rear cables. Check to make sure they are attached.

I found a general pic of what I'm referring to. See if it helps.
