Had code: P1740. I Changed Transmission filter and fluid. Car will not engage any gear and feels like it's permanently in neutral.

Placed car in Park. Disconnected Negative battery cable.

Removed transmission pan.

Uninstalled the solenoid valve cartridge

Uninstalled old then reinstalled new transmission fluid filter (the one that has 1 nut on top)

When reinstalling the valve solenoid cartridge I reattached the Negative battery terminal and switched the gears into Neutral because there was a metal arm that wouldn't let me freely push it upwards.

Put the gear back into park after I reinstalled the valve solenoid cartridge. Disconnected battery terminal again.
Reinstalled transmission pan.

Added the same amount of trans fluid that I took out (6 qts) Dexron VI Full Synthetic and I read the details:. Recommended for use in GM transmissions model year 2006 and newer calling for DEXRON-VI Automatic Transmission Fluid (replaces DEXRON-III and DEXRON-II(E) or recommended for any other vehicle manufacturer that calls for DEXRON-VI, III or II(E). ACDelco DEXRON-VI Automatic Transmission Fluid is not for use in CVT (Continuously Variable Transmissions) or DCT (Dual Clutch Transmissions) that require specialized fluids.

Started car, put into reverse and car wouldn't go. Tried all gears and it would seem the car just stays in Neutral.

Hi,

It looks like you did a good service. Did it shift okay before the serviced? If it was shifting before the service we need to back step the service. Fist make sure there no blown transmission fuses. Be careful not to drop manual valve and servo release accumulator return springs.
Disassemble and inspect control valve assembly if necessary.
Remove servo release and N-D accumulators by applying compressed air if necessary.
Hold each piston with a clean, lint-free towel.
Set manual shaft in Neutral position, then align manual plate with groove in manual valve. After installing control valve assembly to transmission case, make sure that selector lever can be moved to all positions. (Make sure all the valve body bolts go back into the same hole they came out off). Make sure the filter is sealing and no cracks.
Let us know if this info was helpful if you need more we will get for you.

Thank you
Joe T.
