Groaning whistling noise coming from the wheels

Just started. It groans at first but then fades to a whistling once I pick up speed. Sound oddly enough like some one is sharpening a knife. Does not come from the engine. Sounds like the tires.

Have you checked the brakes? Have you checked wheel bearings? Have you inspected the tires for uneven wear? Does the noise change if you make a turn?

The way you described the noise, it sounds like a sensor on the brakes.
