Grinding sound when putting car in gear

I have a 2003 Honda Accord. The car starts fine, but when you put it in a gear, like drive or park, etc...) it makes a horrible grinding type noise. What could be wrong with my car. It was driving perfectly previous to this unexpected incidence.

Does it move? If not, have you checked for a broken axle or CV joint?
