We recently took our 2007 Yukon (40,000miles) in to get a damaged tire replaced and the mechanic (TireWorks) said the shocks need to be replaced because they're worn out and are causing uneven tire wear.
They quoted me a total of $1269 for parts and labor to change the front struts and rear shocks with a 5 year/50k mile alignment guarantee.
Here are my questions:
1. Does this sound like a legitimate requirement for a car with only 40,000 miles?
2. Is the price fair?
3. I'm not a mechanic, but is this something I could do myself with a Chilton repair manual and some basic tools?
Thanks for your help.
