Service engine light is on and the shop is unable to connect their diagnostic computer to my truck it will not comunicate with my truck. What could be the problem?

If when they hook up their scan tool and the scan tool doen't even light up, then the cigarette light fuse is blown. That's where the OBD connector get's it's 12VDC. Replace the fuse and try again.

So right, check the fuse and then clean the ALDL connector they get corrosion on them becasue they hang down.
